Facilities
Indoor Arena
Our main arena is our Indoor Arena, which was the first built in South Australia in the 1960’s. It’s training sized at 20 x 40m, with sand surface, lighting, mirrors, dressage markers, viewing platform, stereo with AUX connection and a selection of poles and cavalittis.
You can hire the arena for riding on a casual basis, pay online or cash on the day, or you can purchase a 3 month pass which allows unlimited rides for a fixed price.
If you are a trainer or coach looking to use our indoor arena frequently, please contact us and we can organise special prices for frequent commercial use.
Our indoor has been hired for many clinics and workshops over the years. Riding, hoof trimming, massage & body work, ground work, even dog training classes!

Outoor Arena
Our secondary arena is the Outdoor arena, which is full length 20 x 60m and natural grass surface. This arena is perfect if you’re wanting to work in a bigger area, expose your horse to more interesting surroundings, or just enjoy the sun!
The Outdoor arena is best suited for riding in Autumn and Spring, and is sometimes used as a yard in Winter and Summer when it is otherwise too hard or soft for riding.
Stables
Oakwood Park’s stable complex has 10 stables, 5 of which are currently used for bedding horses and three as tack room, feed room and bathroom, one used as a stock room for Elite Equine Essentials and the last as storage.
Dimensions are 12ft x 12ft, with two stables at the end of the breezeway being 16ft x 12ft. Individual stables have different flooring, with some people having different preferences for dirt, concrete or brick and sawdust is used as bedding and can be used for $10 per week.
Stables are made from wooden planks and steel, and have steel mesh at head height as dividers between stables. Some stables have extra tall mesh for extra tall horses! There is lighting throughout the stables, as well as windows and roller doors to let in some fresh air and natural light.
Amenities
The wash bay doubles as a cross tie area, perfect for tacking up and show prep and fitted with a solarium. To the right of the wash bay is a heavy-duty washing machine for rugs and saddle pads, two sinks and some shelving where you may keep wash powder or grooming equipment. The sink and wash bay have both hot and cold water, the horses love a good warm shower and you can easily mix warm feeds in winter.
The feed and tack rooms are at the other end of the breeze way. There is a large wooden saddle rack and allocated cupboard space in the tack room, and an allocated space in the feed room that may have shelf space or spare feed bins. Hay storage is separate, behind the arena with space for approximately 20 small squares per agistee on pallets.
A toilet is located in the stable next to the feed room, and a fridge/freezer, pod coffee machine, microwave, kettle and scales is located in the breezeway against the tack room. Lastly there is fresh rainwater available for humans to drink at the sink.
Our Paddocks
Oakwood Park’s paddocks are electrified with shelter sheds and automatic water troughs and can hold good grass through autumn and spring, but often the horses eat the paddocks out during summer time, so feeding regularly is essential to help maintain our paddocks and the health of your horse. Paddocks are irritated in summer in order to maintain ground cover as best as possible.
At Oakwood Park we use natural landcare methods to rejuvenate our soil and pasture, including the use of dung beetles and creating shelter belts along the contour of the land to slow erosion.
Given how important dung beetles are to us, we would appreciate removing your horses manure if you have wormed with anything other than Equest Plus Tape in the 48 hours prior.
6 day paddocks
These paddocks are ideal for horses who are in work due to their size and grass cover. The paddocks vary from mostly flat to gently sloping, and have a varying amount of tree coverage, although almost all these paddocks are also equipped with shelter sheds to provide shade and shelter from the elements.
7 grazing paddocks
These are mostly used for our stallion and youngstock and hold more grass and are larger than the day paddocks, although also a steeper slope. These paddocks have been the focus of our landcare activities preventing erosion of topsoil.
2 holding yards
We also have two holding yards which are not for full time use, but are convenient when waiting for farriers, dentists, vets or trainers, or can even be used to bring horses in overnight as an alternative to stabling. These yards have automatic water, made with steel fencing with some grazing in Autumn and Spring.
Yards are free to use for people hiring the arena and for clinics and events.
